Vocabulary Development
09-02 and 09-07,
This week we looked at how to learn new vocabulary and record it. Remember the skills you learned to record new vocabulary and use them, not only for English, but for your other subjects as well!
Keep studying for those exams and remember there are remedial classes after school if you have any questions for your teachers.

How to prepare for a test!
Preparing for a test
Keep up with regular class work and assignments. Take notes.
Start reviewing a few days before the test.
Devise your own ways to organise and remember information.
Use a 'buddy system' to study. Teach the information in your own words to a classmate.
Get a good night's sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast and lunch.

Test Taking Tips
Do you sweat, chew your pencil, and feel butterflies in your stomach as your teacher hands out a test? A lot of people (adults included) get freaked out when it's time to take a test.
Here are some tips for taking tests:
• First, be sure you've studied properly. It sounds like a no-brainer, but if you're sure of the information, you'll have less reason to be worried.
• Get enough sleep the night before the test. Your memory recall will be much better if you've had enough rest.
• Listen closely to any instructions. As the teacher hands out the test, be sure you know what's expected of you.
• Read the test through first. Once you have the test paper in front of you, read over the entire test, checking out how long it is and all the parts that you are expected to complete.
• Focus on addressing each question individually. As you take the test, if you don't know an answer, don't obsess over it. Instead, answer the best way you can or skip over the question and come back to it after you've answered other questions.
• Relax. If you're so nervous that you blank out, you might need a mini-break. Of course you can't get up and move around in the middle of a test, but you can wiggle your fingers and toes, take four or five deep breaths, or picture yourself on a beach or some other calm place.
• Finished already? Spend any extra time checking over your work, rereading your writing and making sure you answered ALL questions.

Time to Study!
Dear 9.5 and 9.10,
I can’t believe the first semester is almost over! Your final exams begin on Sunday and it’s very important you are aware of your schedule. Schedules were emailed to you. Take some time to go over when you have each exam and make a plan of how you are going to study. Don’t wait until the night before to study, start studying NOW! Also, take advantage of the time after school to meet with your teachers and go over any concepts that are still difficult or confusing for you.
Good luck!
